Monday, November 14

Today, we decided to show our love and support for groups that may be experiencing fear or feel alone, especially in light of some of the hateful things that we've seen this last week.

We countered hateful groups, their bigotry, and vandalism with our own colorful reminders that we are not alone and that we're all fighting against intolerance, because hate is NEVER okay.

Our ideas for what to say:
  • Be yourself!
  • Black Lives Matter
  • As long as you smile, I smile.
  • I support you whether you’re LGBTQ or straight.
  • You matter to me.
  • I’m glad you’re here.
It's chalk time!!

Student Reflection:
How did that go?
I worked hard.
It went really well!
What did you feel?
It was fun!
I felt good!
I felt proud of myself.
I feel like, 'I’m supporting you, I’m not extorting you.'
I feel supportive, and like they’ll be happy that we did this and that they feel that they’re safe, and that they won’t be judged.
I feel like everybody now has their rights and their freedom.
I actually felt like now, with those messages, people who are LGBTQ will actually start coming out more.  They will know that we support them!
I actually felt proud, but I felt sad too because some people might not feel really supported.   I’m glad there’s a little message for them to feel better.

Monday, November 7

Check out all the STUFF we did!

WITHOUT TEACHER HELP, the students of Project: Change the World
  • Decided what cause to support
  • Decided how to promote the cause
  • Asked questions to decide on dates
    • Deliberated and decided a month would be enough time
  • Decided to do one drive at a time, instead of both
  • Figured out who would create what kind of poster
  • Put up the posters around the school with blue sticky tack!

Next time → November 14th!
Set up the box → so it’s ready for 11/15
  • Figure out the door to door list!
    • Make big posters to put up 14th
  • Set up whatever we need to finish setting up!
